Daddy Mac started as an ATR on Pig-Boats (P-5's), then flew in P-2's, and finally P-3's. Part of the old WEST-PAC VP Mafia, owned part of the "Tiger Lady" Bar in Olongapo City. He was my Sea-Daddy. We affectionately called him "Daddy Mac" when I started out so long ago in VP-22. His demeanor, candor, knowledge and leadership SET me in my ways years later when I became a successful senior chief. He was firm but caring, expected his AW's to strive to be the best, and ran the BEST AW shop on the WEST-COAST for nearly 5 years. That claim is backed-up by the fact VP-22 had 3 Battle E's in 4 grading periods and took the Isbell trophy 4 years in a row. That was with base-line B's with the DIFAR Mod, and we were competing with the Moffett guys!

Wayne R. Menger:
A great and original AW departed to the "Hangar Everlasting" in October of 1996. He died from emphasema. He was mentor and father to many AW's still in the Navy today. I owe him for instilling in me the many fine qualities that made me a successful "Chief Petty Officer" in the Navy. "Daddy Mac" knew what it took to be a Chief and a good AW; he will be sorely missed by many of the troups that he took under his wing. He was flying "Pigboats" P-5M before most of us were in the Navy. The experiences that he related brought the best out of all of us. He taught me a lot about dedication, leadership, and commitment to your troups. It's been a while, but I think it is about time that he has a section set aside for him and his many accomplishments. He taught a lot of us what a real "Navy Chief" is all about. I never met another quite like him; he is what AW's are all about. AWCS David McDaniel fairwell!!
