AWC (Ret.) Troy Reed
Jim was a big character in the International Hudson Car Club. He was one of those people that sea stories are built around. He flew as a tail gunner on a WWII torpedo plane in the days of yore. I flew with him in VS-24 from the USS Yorktown after the AW rate begin. The guy was flying long before I was born and I, as the Natops Evaluator for the squadron, had to give him a "down" on his check flight because it took him over 3 minuets to get his chute on. He was livid. After we landed our AW Division Officer reviewed the career opportunities I was failing to consider, so that afternoon we went back up and he passed that check flight with flying colors.
