Frank's service dates were from November, 1943 through June, 1986. AW1 (Ret.) Darryl Currie:
Frank was a SelRes, who began flying around 1943 in the Grumman TBF during the war. After the war he went reserve. In '68 he was a reservist who transitioned, I think as an AWC. He went TEMAC as a Recruiter at NAS Alameda. The punch line is that he was a full time San Francisco Fire Fighter!!! He remained a recruiter until around '79, and he went to HS-85 as a 7881. I met him when I was a young PC on the HS-85 line in 1981. When Frank retired from the fire dept, he volunteered for recall to active duty as an AWCS. He wanted to stay HS Aircrew, so he was sent to HC-1 SAR School in July 1982! This is where I got to know him better, as I was also in that class. He had to be around 55 years old. He was ok on the swimming, but the running was out. So, he was dropped from the class and went to a Carrier out of North Island. I last heard he was an AWCM on the Kitty Hawk, or Constellation. I think he should have retired around 87-88. He was a helluva interesting gent!! I think he lives in SF.
