Crashed into a ship; allegedly died fighting sharks.

Shipmates Comments:
AW1 Harry Knight:
Bill was one of my junior crewman on my second WESTPAC with HSL-35. He was always one to get things done right away, mostly not even needing to be told. He was a hard charger in the helo and on the deck. When either myself or my other junior crewman, Vinnie Lopez, were not up to flying Bill would not hesitate to jump in the seat. He knew it was time to get off the ship and have time to himself. Bill left the Navy and for what ever reason came back in, knowing he enjoyed being an AW he went right back at it at HSL-33. I can say I had the honor and priviledge of helping teach a great AW and knowing a great person.

Scott Fitzpatrick:
I went through HSL-31 with Bill Martinie, in fact he was in my class. Bill as I recall was rolled from another class into mine and he went onto HSL-33, served his hitch, got out and then came back in and went to HSL-33 once again where he was was lost at sea. A tragic loss of a good AW!
